Challenge

Expanding a growing retail network required a flexible design approach that could be applied to both ground-up stores and second-generation spaces while maintaining consistency with the established Grocery Outlet prototype. The design needed to support fresh food offerings and a rapid store rollout schedule across multiple markets.

Solution

Each project incorporates a 3D laser scan of the existing building as the foundation for layout and design, capturing highly accurate as-built conditions and identifying opportunities and constraints early in the process. Refrigeration systems are carefully integrated to support produce, meat, dairy, deli, and Natural, Organic, Specialty and Healthy (NOSH) departments while maintaining an efficient store layout.

Outcome

Efficiency in design thinking, planning, process, and integration supports Grocery Outlet’s time-to-market objectives and broader expansion strategy. The program enables the rapid delivery of stores in strategic locations while maintaining the operational consistency needed to offer discounted products and fresh grocery selections across the retailer’s growing footprint.
