Midfield Heights is a city-led redevelopment envisioned as an inclusive, walkable urban village combining diverse housing, commercial uses, public parks, and connected streets within an established inner-city setting in northeast Calgary.
City of Calgary

Challenge
The 24-acre master planned site presents an opportunity to create a gateway to the city, increase density, and provide more affordable residential units. The site’s escarpment, utility corridors, adjacent service uses and registered access route provided a framework to define a distinctive setting and organize connections across the development parcels. At the building scale, 360-degree exposure invites a cohesive architectural expression, with thoughtful façade design supporting privacy and sustainability.
Solution
In collaboration with Calgary Housing and developer Rohit Group, one of the master plan’s first projects comprises two four-story affordable housing buildings with 176 homes. Our design strengthens neighbourhood connections, with underground parking freeing the ground plane for shared outdoor spaces and preserving views. Unit layouts adapt standard market models to support accessibility, energy performance and long-term flexibility. Fibre-cement siding and panels, graphite-grey brick veneer and wood-look accents create a modern exterior with warmth and texture.
Outcome
Midfield Heights will create a vibrant urban village, expanding housing supply through densification while supporting Calgary’s growth, long-term residential stability and a socially diverse community.
