Tamarisk NorthShore Deerfield Senior Residences expands an established continuing care retirement community with 240 independent living residences designed to support an active and connected lifestyle.

Challenge
As an addition to an existing CCRC campus, the development needed to provide high-quality independent living accommodations while fostering social interaction, wellness, and a strong sense of community for active adults. The design also had to balance private living spaces with a robust amenity program, creating opportunities for connection both indoors and outdoors.
Solution
We designed the six-story residence around a variety of interaction and amenity spaces, including an open lobby with concierge desk and fireplace, a bar and bistro with casual, formal, and private dining areas, a library, card and craft rooms, a theatre, pool, yoga and Pilates studio, sauna, and fitness room. A range of apartment layouts feature large windows that maximize natural light, while the building’s H-shaped plan creates landscaped north- and south-facing courtyards sheltered on three sides for resident enjoyment.
Outcome
The completed development provides a modern residential care environment that balances wellness, social engagement, and independent living. Thoughtfully integrated indoor and outdoor amenities create opportunities for connection and relaxation, supporting a vibrant lifestyle for residents.

An open lobby anchored by a concierge desk, fireplace, and bistro-style dining spaces creates a welcoming hub for daily community life.

Apartments of varying sizes feature large windows that fill living areas with natural light
The Tamarisk NorthShore Deerfield Senior Residences in Deerfield, IL, is a prime example of NORR achieving its mandate to deliver unique, high quality residential care facilities for active adults. Located in a northern suburb of Chicago, the 240-unit independent living residential care development is an addition to the existing continuing care retirement community (CCRC) campus site.
In keeping with the design approach of providing the residents a modern active lifestyle, the building was designed with multiple interaction and amenity spaces. The design features an expansive open lobby with a concierge desk, fireplace, combination bar and bistro with areas for casual, formal and private dining. To create a sense of community, NORR provided social spaces such as a library, card and craft rooms and a theater. The indoor amenity space also features a pool, yoga/pilates studio, sauna and fitness room.
The apartments were designed in a variety of sizes that feature large windows in all living areas for an abundance of natural light. The exterior features a soothing earth tone palette of grays and dark charcoal along with accents of terra cotta. The six-storey building is laid out in an “H-Shaped” plan to create north-facing and south-facing landscaped courtyards protected on three sides to create cozy outdoor spaces for resident relaxation.
